Recently in Malaysia, a troubling incident unfolded involving a currency exchange shop and some corrupt police officers. It happened at a shop in Kuantan, where the staff delayed a customer under the pretense of verifying a transfer. They then tipped off some shady cops.
As soon as the customer stepped out, the police were waiting, demanding to see passports and visas. Even though the friend's visa was valid, the customer was accused of overstaying because they couldn't immediately show a photo of their student visa. The real issue was the large amount of cryptocurrency in their wallet.
At the police station, officers rummaged through the customer's phone, accusing them of using cryptocurrency for gambling, and demanded a bribe. In the end, the customer had to borrow money to pay up. This exchange shop and the corrupt cops seem to have a whole scheme targeting people with cryptocurrency. Folks need to be extra cautious around these parts.
