Between early July and early August this year, a bitter mess played out in Vientiane, Laos. A man named Wu Jialin took on two separate groups totaling 60 people, charging them steep venue and property fees on the promise of providing working spaces. But the moment the money left their hands, not a single day of work got done. Instead, everyone was parked in local hotels and told to sit tight. They tried to cooperate and wait it out, but unexpected inspections hit the hotels, and the whole situation blew up in their faces.
Ever since things went sour, Wu Jialin has done nothing but stall, stringing people along with one excuse after another. Out here trying to earn an honest living far from home, every day means rent, utilities, and meals coming straight out of pocket. Nobody has the cushion to survive this kind of runaround. When everyone’s patience and trust were finally worn to the bone, they demanded their money back. Wu gave them the runaround again, pushing and dodging. Now, he has gone completely dark—ignoring phone calls, refusing to show up, and pulling a total vanishing act.
Driven right up against the wall, the victims have laid down a final ultimatum: if he does not refund the money today, they will expose criminal records belonging to Wu and his father back home in China. They plan to hand over their locations, audio recordings, and all gathered evidence directly to the relevant authorities in China, while also reporting the matter to Chinese police liaisons in Laos. Running into a dirty deal like this on foreign streets truly leaves a bitter taste in the mouth of anyone just trying to get by.
