Sitting around the street side tea stalls, all you hear these days is the dark business going down across the border. One name that keeps popping up is Du Gang. On paper, his hometown is Xinyuan Village in Baide Town, Xingren City, Guizhou Province. But hiding out in Wa State, Myanmar, he goes by Xiao Gui or Ah Gui around Pangkham.
He was already a wanted fugitive in China when he slipped across the border, but once there, he went completely rogue—diving deep into kidnapping, extortion, and human trafficking. People in the scene say he has more than a few lives on his hands.
A few years back, he ran an outfit in Pangkham with a crew of up to a hundred men. Lately, he’s shifted over to the Mong Pawk area, keeping his human trafficking racket going full steam. Every single Chinese national working at the Wan Hai company in Tangyan was funneled through his hands. In underground circles, he is dubbed the top fake recruiter out of China, and he even boasts that he is the ultimate "ceiling" when it comes to receiving trafficked victims in Wa State. On top of that, he frequently throws around the name Ai Kang to pull off scams all over the region.
As night taxis rattle down the road and dust settles into tea cups on the curb, the chatter always circles back to the same hope: seeing this menace finally brought down. Many are urging top Wa State authorities to take notice, tear this cancer out by the roots, and hand him over to Chinese law enforcement so the local border community can finally get some peace.
