Police in Koh Kong’s Kiri Sakor district finally moved in to inspect a suspicious warehouse in Dara Sakor yesterday, responding to community complaints and local media reports alleging that Chinese nationals were hiding out inside and running illegal operations.
When officers searched the building, they found clear signs of a hasty getaway. Fresh cigarette butts littered the floor, mosquito coils were still smoking in the rooms, and stockpiles of daily supplies were left behind. The female caretaker told police the place was rented by a Chinese manager working for a Dara Sakor company. She admitted that groups of Chinese nationals often turned up late at night with employees to sleep over, constantly making the run back and forth between Sihanoukville and Dara Sakor.
Local media didn't hold back, slamming the police check as a superficial, go-through-the-motions effort and calling for a thorough follow-up investigation. On the streets, locals say noisy midnight trips between Sihanoukville and Dara Sakor have been a common sight for a while now.
