During a management meeting about how to handle underperforming staff, the local militia guys made it crystal clear: miss your targets and you get beaten. Out here, there's no law.
Just how brutal life is for the workers on the ground is clear from the extreme violence. A young Malaysian guy suspected of stealing money was allegedly whipped and electrocuted all night long on the boss's orders. After he was tortured to death, his body was stuffed into a refrigerator, smuggled out of the compound, and buried. Aside from that killed worker, dozens of others have been forcibly dragged away and are still missing, their fates totally unknown.
These gangs are not only vicious; their targets are also sky-high. Boss YC announced during the meeting that scam teams targeting the US and French markets must hit $300,000 in monthly turnover, or the whole team faces physical punishment. Meanwhile, the compound is still expanding, with new courtyard-style buildings going up to serve as fresh scam dens. The boss is busy hashing out deals with other partners while shaking down surrounding compounds for hefty road-repair kickbacks.
