Malaysia's Johor immigration department announced on September 14 that the Pekan Nanas immigration detention depot deported 88 foreign nationals during the second week of September, including one Chinese citizen.
The group came from several different countries, comprising 26 Myanmar nationals, 23 Pakistanis, 16 Bangladeshis, 8 Indians, 6 Thais, 3 Vietnamese, 2 Sri Lankans, and one each from China, Nigeria, Kenya, and Nepal. They all departed for home from Terminals 1 and 2 of Kuala Lumpur International Airport.
Local immigration officials said these individuals had previously served prison sentences for criminal offenses, drug cases, or immigration violations. Once they finished their prison terms and completed all legal procedures, they were handed over to the immigration department for deportation. Their return flights were paid for mostly by themselves or with the help of family members, though in special cases, the relevant embassies and consulates in Malaysia covered the ticket costs. All 88 people have been placed on Malaysia's immigration blacklist and are barred from entering the country for a set period.
The Pekan Nanas detention depot previously reminded the public that booking tickets and handling deportation procedures for detainees must go through designated counters at the center, and no extra service fees are charged by authorities. The deportation process for all 88 individuals has now been fully completed.
