Chittagong has been quite busy over the last few days after police raided an eight-storey residential building in the Khulshi area and detained 63 foreigners inside. Local media reported that the group lived in a tightly organized arrangement, taking up the entire building with rooms assigned by nationality. When police searched the premises, they hauled out 134 mobile phones, 57 laptops, and a mountain of other electronic gear. The biggest red flag was that not a single one of the 63 people could produce a passport—officers only managed to dig up a few Pakistani national ID cards and a single Cambodian employment pass.
The demographics inside were a real mix: 35 Lao nationals, 21 Pakistanis, 5 Chinese, plus one each from Nepal and Vietnam, along with 20 women and a child. Police suspect a man named Mohsin rented the whole building and confiscated everyone's passports. The group kept mostly to themselves behind closed doors, and investigators are still tracing how they managed to slip into Bangladesh on whatever visas they used.
Looking at the pile of phones and computers, local police believe it is yet another scam compound—likely running online shopping fraud, pig-butchpering scams, or romance traps, though they are waiting for forensics to confirm the exact playbook. One official noted that with regional crackdowns tightening in places like Laos and Cambodia, grey-market cyber syndicates may be shifting their operations over to Bangladesh. All 63 individuals have been formally charged under the country's Digital Security Act as police dig into where the passports went and who was pulling the strings.
