Over in Poipet, there was another big inspection recently. The provincial deputy governor led the team, with the mayor also joining, making quite a show as they went to check on foreigners. Their goal was clear: to see if anyone was secretly involved in online scams or other illicit activities. These kinds of checks happen pretty often around here, so people are used to them by now.
This time, they checked a total of 50 foreigners, with 20 of them being women. The majority were Thai, numbering 40, along with seven Indonesians and three Laotians. After the checks, it turned out 12 people had all their documents in order. However, 37 individuals had issues with their paperwork. With so many foreigners in the area, all sorts of situations pop up, and incomplete documents are pretty common.
They visited several locations, including Poipet City, O'Chrov, and the Central Market. But after all that effort, not a single online scammer was apprehended. They didn't find any equipment or clues related to cyber fraud on site. It seems like this particular sweep didn't yield much, but as folks on the street know, these inspections are likely to keep happening.
