If you don't report your accommodation on time, or if your seals and documents are found just lying around, a fine might be the least of your worries. Your visa and residency status could both be affected. What's even worse is if someone gets hold of them and uses them for something dodgy – then you'd be in deep trouble, and you'd be the one paying the price.
So, for anyone thinking of setting up shop or living in Vietnam, you really need to keep this in mind. Don't think it's a small thing; the local government is cracking down hard right now. A random check on the street could easily catch you out. When you're living or working overseas, you really need to know the local rules to avoid causing trouble for yourself.
