Back home, the media’s been full of reports about how most of the old scam compounds have been busted. But the syndicates haven’t given up—they’ve just broken down into smaller groups and headed south. With its large Chinese-speaking community, shared language, and easy visa rules, Malaysia seems to have become their new landing spot.
Unlike the heavily guarded compounds of the past, complete with high walls and guards carrying sticks, these new operations are much more low-profile. They’re tucked away inside ordinary city apartments and office blocks, blending right in with everyday office workers. Not only are their pitch books as slick as ever, but their counter-surveillance game has leveled up, making them deeply entrenched and hard to find.
Local police haven't been sitting on their hands, either. They’re running raids every few days and have already rounded up hundreds of suspects. But dealing with these scattered, decentralized cells is a real headache. Going door-to-door takes a massive effort, and uprooting the syndicates completely is far from easy.
