Things have been pretty tense in Sihanoukville lately. Word is, someone tossed a laptop right off a 22nd-floor balcony. Imagine that kind of height—the computer was actually on fire as it plummeted straight down. Talk about a terrifying sight. Naturally, it drew an immediate response: police swarmed the scene and started sweeping the building floor by floor, room by room, even hauling in the building manager for questioning.

It was a major operation. Not just police, but military police were deployed too. A good number of people inside the building were detained and hauled off to the station. Anyone with a passport got stopped for thorough document checks, while others were ordered to sit tight in the basement until transport arrived to take them away. As of now, the search operation still doesn't look fully wrapped up.

The streets are chaotic enough as it is, and a stunt like this just puts everyone on edge. For our Chinese compatriots making a living out here, it's probably best to stay extra vigilant over the next few days. Watch your back, stay safe, and make sure your papers are on you at all times so you don't get caught out by a sudden sweep.
