To put it plainly, this was a swift late-night surprise inspection. The location was the Rongxing Hotel KTV in Xaythany District, Vientiane. After arriving at the scene, law enforcement officers took control of 11 people involved in the case, including 10 Chinese nationals and 1 Lao national.
Quite a few items were also seized at the scene. Local media said officers confiscated 16 mobile phones, 1 laptop, and 2 gas cylinders; in addition, 2 syringes containing a brown liquid suspected to be drugs, drug-use paraphernalia, as well as 10 bags of balloons, 16 packs of cigarettes, and other items connected to the case.
The case is still not over. Local police are currently reviewing the 11 suspects and continuing to dig into the organizers behind the scenes and other people involved. The specific amount involved and exactly how the crime was carried out have not yet been disclosed.
KTVs and hotels here often operate together, and they are already the kind of busy places with constant foot traffic that come alive when the lights go on. But once cybercrime becomes involved, people on the street tend to talk about it very cautiously—especially in a case like this, with a midnight raid and suspects detained on the spot, where news spreads very quickly.
