The APSARA Authority asked tourists to enter the Angkor parks from 5 a.m. to avoid the day’s heat. August and September temperatures in Siem Reap remain high.
Staff said Angkor Wat and Angkor Thom are busiest from 9 to 11 a.m. A dawn visit makes photographs and walking in the courtyards easier.
Domestic tour groups from Phnom Penh agreed, because midday heat tires people quickly. Cafés near the temples now open at 5 a.m. to sell water and simple food.
Visitors should not climb on temple stone or use large tripods in narrow paths, and should keep a distance from monks staying in the park. Staff will guide people at the main gates.
Angkor tickets are still sold online and at the ticket office. APSARA expects visitor numbers to rise again in September as the rain eases.
